Treason Tom
“A blackcrab mindset”
By Jessica Ford
Are we black crabs or are we train to think like them. Imagine being the black crab, being trample on, tackle, bambosil, oppress, mislead and so on from your own. Watching the Crab at the top basically look below and not lend a hand but stand on the top to watch the others fumble. Being the black crab having to watch the white crab work together to pull each other out of the Barrel. Somehow both crabs are place in a new environment but think differently in such. When it comes to the Black crab fear, survival, Bondage and slavery is embedded in their DNA. The white crab thinks freely and has the chance to think logically.
The black crabs never want to vote, do not want to do charity work, do not want to help but want to have the freedom to complain when it impact us. I do believe Bahamians love the Bahamas; only they could belittle, desensitized, oppress and corrupt the Bahamas. No one else is allowed to do it and if they do they are calling for a Unity Strike. Bahamians come together when it’s time to be biggity, after the storm but not for too long and Independence. We do not see this pride when they support and shop. The black crab syndrome has been endoctrine into the Bahamian society from the stone ages. Elders teach their kids and their kids and they teach their friends this mentality.
Let’s look into the mindset of a black crab and their selfish thinking. The name of the black crab is Uncle Tom and he sings I am better, I am bigger, I am important. This is a form of disloyalty & treason which is supported at the highest level in our country. We see Uncle Tom in the highest places in the workplace as Bahamians have watch foreigners come and take high positions that Bahamians could fill. We see him in the workplace as co- workers especially elders frown upon those who have a higher position or judgmental before even knowing them. We see Uncle Tom in our homes when they chastise our children to get a job, and when you do they expect you to be in management before the interview have even finish or it doesn’t count. He also sees starting a business as a threat and waste of time, a joke or just something little. He belittles the innocent before they can even be creative. We see Uncle in Government offices, with an extra tip you can be served immediately or wait another century for what you need. We see uncle when we know we qualify for a job but it’s who you know that will get you through doors. We see Uncle T in your daily actions, as we worry and gossip about her husband, his wife, and the neighbor kids rather than speaking words that would build them up. We see Unc as we drive pass our own Bahamian businesses to support the Chinese and every other because they have it a dollar cheaper. We see him as Bahamians beg for discounts and looking for a reason to reduce price. We see Uncle Tommy in our schools as kids rather compete than help others to understand. We see it in businesses as their customer services is deplorable towards locals but they would change their accent for the tourist. We see him as we enter hotels even if we staying there, get treat differently. We see him when we visit family islands and you get that stare that you don’t belong there. We Know Uncle Tom is everywhere but we don’t feel it because we are subconsciously used to it.
